Workshop on Capturing and Logging Ecological Virtual Experiences and Reality (CLEVER)

Co-located with the 31st IEEE Conference on Virtual Reality and 3D User Interfaces (VR 2024).

March 16-20, 2024 | Orlando, Florida USA

CALL FOR PAPERS:

Important Note: IEEE VR 2024 will be an in-person event with no remote attendance capabilities.

Date and Time: Half day on either Saturday, March 16th or Sunday, March 17th.

Workshop Website: https://sites.google.com/view/clever-workshop/

Workshop Description:

In recent years, researchers have begun capturing and logging data from consumer virtual reality (VR) experiences, such as Half-Life: Alyx and Beat Saber. Such ecologically valid datasets afford numerous research insights and capabilities not possible with traditional study designs and implementations. This workshop focuses on how such ecologically valid datasets can be captured, what insights they afford, and their various use cases (e.g., identifying users based on their VR tracking data). This workshop is also a platform for presenting and discussing datasets captured from openly available VR and extended reality (XR) applications, including non-consumer projects.

Workshop Topics:

Submission Guidelines:

We welcome paper submissions between 4 to 8 pages, including references. Submissions must be written in English and must be formatted using the IEEE Computer Society VGTC conference format (https://tc.computer.org/vgtc/publications/conference/). Accepted papers will be published in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library in the IEEE Conference on Virtual Reality and 3D User Interfaces Abstracts and Workshops (VRW) proceedings. Submissions will be accepted through the Precision Conference Solutions (PCS) online system: https://new.precisionconference.com/vr

Open Datasets or Tools:

Those who have created a new dataset or open-source software package that is relevant to the VR community, particularly from a CLEVER perspective, should consider submitting a paper describing the dataset or tool. It is important that the dataset or tool be linked to from the paper and openly accessible during the review process to evaluate its quality and value. Note that it is the authors’ responsibility to ensure that all datasets and source code are licensed in such a manner that it can be legally and freely used, at the minimum in academic and research settings (e.g., MIT, GPLv2, BSD).

Review Process:

Paper submissions are expected to be single blind and do not need to be anonymized. Submissions will be reviewed using a juried process, during which each paper will be read and evaluated by one to two reviewers with final decisions made collectively by the CLEVER Workshop Organizers. Authors will receive reviews of their submissions explaining the decision and providing feedback. Authors of accepted papers are expected to address any recommendations and conditions of acceptance prior to the final submission of camera-ready materials.

Important Dates:

Each deadline is 23:59:59 AoE (Anywhere on Earth) == GMT/UTC-12:00 on the stated day, no matter where the submitter is located.
