Wonderscope is an augmented reality application for iOS developed by Within. The application uses a tablet and is targeted towards children. Using their tablet, the child experiences an interactive story. This story's scenes unfold around the room and the user follows the characters as they move around the physical environment.
The stories encourage the user to move around the room as they experience the story. Additionally, the app encourages the user to read the story aloud. At certain points, the story prompts the user to speak a line of the story, and the story reacts accordingly. The user can even reach and touch the characters, and the characters will react to their touch.
Below you can find Wonderscope's promotional video.
To start a story, the child first points the camera at a flat surface. This may be a dining table, a floor, or even a bed. Once the story starts, characters and their environment spring to life. The child can then move around the room as the story unfolds. Through the camera they can look around the room for new scenes and characters.
In their promotional video, we get to see how Wonderscope makes use of the whole space. We first see a tight rope walker high above a waterfall. Later, a plane takes off from a runway and then zooms around the room as the user moves around to follow it. We also see that the user is able to interact somewhat with the augmented environment. If the user puts their hand near the character, they react as if they were actually touched.
