The Bob Barrett Memorial Pickleball Tournament

The Death Valley Pumpkin Paddle Battle will be on October 19, 2025 at the old Pickleball courts near the administration building at Nettles Park.  All proceeds from this event will be donated to Clemson United Methodist Chrch, the church of Bob Barrett. Bob was one of our dedicated players in the early days. Sadly he died in an accident in 2023. To read a little about Bob, click here.

Here is part of the format for the tournament.. All levels (under 4.0) and all ages can play. There will be two events.  There will be 16 players in each event (you can play in one or both). Instead of games, each round will be timed - so no waiting to play - everyone will get to play most of the 1.5 hours in each event. Scores can be 16-0 or 5-5 or however many points you get in the allotted time. 

Pumpkin King. Sixteen people will play on the four courts. This is an individual event - you do not sign up with a partner. There will be a timer, and everyone will switch courts when the whistle is blown. You will move up if you win, down if you lose. And you will switch partners on each move.  If you are on the first court and you win, you stay on that court. If you are on the last court and you lose, you also stay on that court. But you will still get new opponents and switch courts. The team that is on the first court at the end will be the winners.

Fam Jam. Eight teams of two family members will play. It can be husband/wife, brother/sister, father/daughter, mother/son, grandparent/grandchild. We will also do this as a timed event. When the whistle blows, write your score on a card that will be on the court, and then move to play a new round. The team with the most points at the end wins.

The goal will be to have fun!! This way, everyone will play the whole time (approximately 1.5 hours) in each event. If more than 16 sign up for an event, we may limit some players to one event so more people can play. 

You will pay at the registration table. Be sure to arrive a few minutes early to sign in and get your starting court number.

Also, there will be a costume contest. So feel free to come in costume if you want!  There will be other surprises too!
