The SAC system helps members stay on track with NHS requirements. SACs are not meant to punish but to provide accountability and a clear path to remain in good standing.
The actions that may result in a SAC include (but are not limited to):
Missing a meeting without an excuse
Failing to turn in the required hours by the due date (1 SAC per 5 hours missing)
Failing to attend the semester's required philanthropy (e.g. Fall Fest or Spring Philanthropy)
Failing to pay dues
Violation of the school conduct code
Any member that receives more than TWO SACs will be put on probation and may face disciplinary action compliant with Sections 10-11 of the Chapter Bylaws:
Section 10. Members who receive more than two SACs per semester will be on probation and must speak to the faculty council to determine the nature of their probation. While on probationary status, members are still required to meet all expectations of the organization. If at that time the student has completed the five extra service hours, corrected the deficiency, and met all expectations since the violation, his/her active membership status will be restored. If the advisor determines that the deficiency has not been corrected, then dismissal procedures will be initiated. Any member who incurs double-probation simultaneously or cumulatively is subject to disciplinary review.
Section 11. In all cases of pending dismissal:
The member will receive written notification from the advisers/faculty council indicating the reason for consideration of dismissal.
The member has the right to respond to the charge(s) against him/her at a hearing before the faculty council prior to any vote on dismissal (in accordance with due process identified in Article X of the National Constitution). The member has the opportunity to present his/her defense either in person or via a written statement presented in lieu of the face-to-face hearing. Following the hearing, the faculty council will then vote on whether to dismiss. A majority vote of the faculty council is needed to dismiss any member.
The results of the faculty council vote will be presented to the principal for review and then stated in a letter sent to the student and parents. Dismissed members must surrender any membership emblems to the adviser.
