In this unit, we would like to quickly review some basic arithmetic skills that students should have learnt in Grade 6-8. We will review topics like BEDMAS (which is the rule that governs the order of operations with numbers) and Adding/Subtracting/Multiplying/Dividing Integers.
As well we will introduce the concept of Rational Numbers versus Irrational Numbers to students.
Our main goals in this unit are:
Identify if a number is Real, Non-Real, Irrational, Rational, Integers, Whole Numbers or Natural Numbers.
Be able to convert any number into its decimal form such that we can compare it to other numbers.
Apply BEDMAS to integers to perform manual calculations of various levels of difficulties and complexities.
If time permitting, to learn how to work with complex calculations of Rational & Irrational Numbers on the calculator.
