Educational Theatre teacher and actress founded the Class Act Theatre Company, Liz Heck.
Liz originally went to SUNY Potsdam in her early undergraduate years. She began studying classical acting until her third semester, and she transferred to SUNY Oneonta to obtain her Bachelor's in Theatre.
Liz struggled with one thing in school; what subject to pick. Liz circled between a Theatre major, English major, and English Education major in her undergraduate years. By the time she was ready to graduate, she was a Theatre major with many English credits (and a Classical Studies minor). During her "off-time" after SUNY Oneonta, she thought about her future and seeing a dual program at New York University; It all became obvious.
She applied to NYU's dual certification program and is certified to teach: Educational Theatre (Prek-12) and English Education (7-12). Liz believes her love of Theatre and English comes naturally because the two subjects are synonymous; one cannot live without the other. Her fierce love of the two has geared her teaching to incorporate many topics into her Theatre teachings.
Since 2017, Liz has been a public school teacher, seeing students grades K-8 at an NYS school in the Hudson Valley. She integrated and developed their first-ever Theatre program, writing her curriculum for all nine grade levels. While Liz does cover various topics in Theatre: storytelling, puppetry, playwriting, acting, directing, technical Theatre, and Theatre History; Liz has delved into other academic areas within Theatre; language (Greek, Irish, Latin, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, African), English, literacy, world history and culture, Social Studies, social/emotional learning, public speaking, cooperation, ensemble building, technology, you name it, Liz has probably done it.
Liz’s artistic resume includes; acting, directing, set design, set painting, props, costumes, and stage makeup.
Although Liz is a NYS teacher in a school setting, she hoped to found Class Act so that her skills and teachings could reach other students. She wants to expand her skills to the horizon and see what life may bring. If you should have any questions or hesitations, she asks you to email her directly; classacttheatreco@gmail.com
Liz is a fully insured Theatre artist with I-9 clearance and fingerprinting in NY, PA & NJ.
Encore:
Liz’s life offstage includes living in Chester, NY, with her fiance Mark, and their two cats, Pierogi & Rigatoni.
Liz being the theatrical person she is, dressed up as William Shakespeare for his birthday to surprise her students. She remained "in role" the entire school day and put on a (horrible, yet entertaining) British accent. She held games and activities for all of the students and ended the day with a loud, "Huzzah!"
