"This collection moves away from a search for aesthetic perfection, serving instead as an intimate study of my ancestral lineage and identity. Navigating the nuances of racial classification has been a lifelong inquiry for me; One that began in early childhood. Through my creative process, painting has become a vehicle for deep discovery, allowing me to turn that uncertainty into a meaningful journey of self-reflection.
Rooted in the rich culture of Belize, Central America, my work explores two distinct lineages: my mother’s Maya heritage from the village of San Jose, where my family still resides today, and my father’s complex lineage, which weaves together Latin American, Sub-Saharan African, and European ancestry. Together, these pieces stand as a visual archive of my ongoing study of my heritage, history, and self."
