Q. What instruments are used during the lessons?
We use an upright piano and a CASIO mini keyboard.
Q. What kinds of music do children play in the club?
Children explore a rich and varied musical repertoire, including:
• Familiar nursery rhymes from English-speaking cultures
e.g. “Hot Cross Buns,” “Mary Had a Little Lamb”
• Folk songs from around the world
e.g. “Au clair de la lune” (French trad.), “Kuckuck, Kuckuck” (German trad.)
• Simple melodies from classical masterpieces,
gradually introduced as children gain confidence
e.g. “Ode to Joy,” by L.v.Beethoven, “Musette” by J.S.Bach
• Creative improvisation sessions,
where children compose and perform their own ideas on the spot
All pieces are arranged for ensemble, so that children at different levels can enjoy playing together.
Depending on their age and experience, some children may begin by playing simplified patterns or individual notes before progressing to full melodies.
Q. Are music scores or materials provided?
Music scores and printed materials are provided as necessary and are covered by the Textbook & Material Fees.
Q. How fast do students typically progress?
We follow a child-centred approach, adjusting the pace to suit each individual. Repetition is used when necessary to ensure stable development and retention.
Q. Will there be any performance opportunities?
Yes, we plan to hold a small in-class performance once a year. Further details will be provided in due course.
Q. Can beginners or children with no piano experience join?
Yes, absolutely.
Children with no prior experience, as well as those currently attending other music schools, are very welcome.
We tailor parts and arrangements based on each child’s age and experience, and encourage them to take on more advanced roles when appropriate.
As lessons are conducted in an ensemble format, children enjoy the experience of making music with others while expanding their musical skills.
Activities include improvisation and simple composition.
Even children who usually have solo lessons can discover the joy of collaborative music-making in this group setting.
We also include improvisation and simple composition activities.
Even children who usually take solo lessons can enjoy the fresh experience of making music with others in a joyful, collaborative environment.
Q. How many children are in each class?
Each class can accommodate up to around 10 children. If there is high demand, an additional class may be created later in the day to ensure a comfortable group size.
Q. My child is shy. Will they be okay in a group setting?
Absolutely. Many children need time to adjust, and that’s perfectly natural.
We welcome each child as they are and provide a warm, supportive environment that encourages participation at their own pace.
Q. My child is very active. Will they be able to concentrate?
Yes. The class includes a variety of activities with movement and rhythm, designed to suit energetic children.
We incorporate natural shifts in pace and plenty of musical interaction to keep engagement high.
Q. We don’t have a piano at home. Can my child still join the lessons?
Yes, your child is welcome to join even if you do not currently have a piano at home.
However, we recommend starting with an easy-to-use mini keyboard or a digital piano to help your child become familiar with the instrument.
Having daily access to an instrument—even a compact one—greatly supports your child’s musical development and fosters a natural relationship with music.
Mini keyboards and digital pianos are also suitable for households where volume control is important.
If you already have an acoustic piano, that’s wonderful—please do use it as your child’s main instrument.

Q. How much should my child practise at home?
To support progress, we recommend spending a little time each day connecting with music or their instrument daily—even if only briefly.
On days when playing is not possible, singing songs from class or simply moving fingers along the keys can still be effective.
We regularly provide guidance on what to focus on at home.
Q. What kind of involvement is expected from parents at home?
Light support is sufficient—gently encouraging your child to practise or simply listening to their playing can make a big difference.
Q. How many teachers are present during the lessons?
The lead teacher is always present to conduct the class. If the number of students exceeds a certain threshold, a support instructor joins to assist.
Q. What kind of coverage is available in the event of an accident or injury during class?
We take all reasonable precautions to ensure the safety of students during lessons. However, to prepare for any unexpected incidents, the class is enrolled in a separate liability insurance policy.
An insurance fee is requested from each family.
Please note that this class is not covered by the Annual Insurance Fee for preschool students enrolled at Clarence International School. A separate insurance policy is arranged specifically for this class.
Please understand that coverage applies only within the terms and conditions of the insurance policy.
