Boat Ramp Advice
The west side ramp has developed a hole and ridge that can impede launching. The cause of this hole and ridge is due to power loading. When larger boats return and run their motor to propel themselves onto their trailer, the bottom is dug into creating the hole while prop wash deposits the debris that forms the ridge.
The depth over the hole and ridge will vary with the lake level and wind direction and force. The hole can be between 34-44 inches deep and the ridge beyond it rises to between 14-24 inches deep. The hole is marked by a yellow sign on the dock and this year the ridge extends about 15 feet beyond the end of the dock.
The west side boat ramp is intended for small to medium size boats. A medium size boat is up to 24 feet and powered by an outboard motor. It can safely maneuver in 36 inches of flat water and launches in 36-39 inches. Thus, even mediium size boats can have problems at the ramp when the lake level is down.
