Conflict, Justice, Decolonization (CJD): Critical Studies of Inter-Asian Societies is pleased to invite you to submit your paper to our first conference on Migration, Refugees, and Statelessness

Throughout history and in the present day, people have constantly relocated from one place to another, driven by the pursuit of survival, improved opportunities, and a multitude of other motivations, including political, economic, and social considerations. However, recently, there has been a substantial growth in debates about migration and refugees, particularly in the context of global politics and national security. Numerous ongoing migration crises have recently garnered widespread attention in the headlines. For example, the Rohingyas crisis has been a grave humanitarian situation for years. More recently, the Russian invasion of Ukraine has forced millions of Ukrainians to flee the country while millions more remain internally displaced; the war has also triggered migration waves from Russia, as hundreds of thousands flee the country to evade compulsory military service. Furthermore, it appears that in the coming years, we may encounter an even greater array of migration challenges, as forecasts suggest that by 2050, the number of climate refugees could exceed 1 billion. These influxes of migrants and refugees have sparked a fresh surge of discussions about the politics of migration, refugee protection and discrimination, and global responses to such issues.

With this call for participation, CJD is seeking contributions that engage with issues related to migration and refugee within Asia and beyond. Potential topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following:
