User Services Program
This program is intended to provide and deliver information services required to support the instructional and research activities of the faculty and students through Library and Internet services. It is designed to adopt and demonstrate a user-centered service mentality that directs all staff activity toward delivery of resources and services to clientele at appropriate time and in the format desired. The library provides the following services:
Circulation (Book Borrowing)
The library provides book borrowing services to students, faculty and administrators.
OPAC/Card Catalog Assistance
The library offers one-on-one instruction in the use of the library and its bibliographic tools like the OPAC/card catalog, bibliographies, indexes , and other services. Information sources can be searched through the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC).
Use of Reading Areas
This type of service is provided for library users who intend to read, study, or consult any of the resources available in the library. Reading tables and carrels are provided in each section.
Learning Commons
A new shared learning space for information technology, remote or online education, tutoring, collaboration, content creation, meeting, reading or study is provided for patrons of the library. This space is separated from the reading areas by glass walls and allow for more casual learning experience.
Use of Discussion Room
Located beside the Filipiniana Section, a discussion room is provided for patrons who wish to undertake meetings and discussions.
Reserve Book Provision
This service includes the provision of instructional resources that are directly in line with the present curricular and instructional programs of the school. Reserve books include textbooks and other materials that are on high demand but are few in copies. Students can use the books within library hours, with the option to borrow the reserve books for home use overnoon or overnight.
Library Education and Training
The library serves as a laboratory for learning for 4th-Year Library Science students undergoing in-campus library practicum.
Reader’s Advisory Service
This service includes guidance to library users in the choice of reading materials especially in their line of interests.
Term Paper Assistance
Professional assistance is given in guiding researchers in the preparation of research and term papers, and in identifying the resources needed.
Reference and Information
Direct personal assistance is provided in the use of reference sources and facilities of the library.
Bibliographies & Pathfinders
The reference section supports the research needs of the faculty and students by providing pathfinders for printed and non-printed information resources available in the library and on the internet.
Faculty Book Request/Tracking
The library accepts request for materials needed for the different subject areas for curricular or instructional purposes. Basically, bibliographic verification of information sources requested by faculty is conducted. A status report of materials requested is available at the technical section (whether materials requested are available, out-of-stock, temporarily out-of-stock, out-of-print, temporarily out-of-print, or not available elsewhere).
Document Delivery and Search
The library staff attends to requests of faculty and administrators to search library materials and deliver it to them.
Bibliographic Service
This service is designed to promote information literacy and develop independent library users by introducing the organization of information sources and the search strategies employed to access relevant information in an efficient, effective, and timely manner. Bibliographic instruction will be provided to faculty, students or groups requesting these services, especially for those currently engaged in research. The library staff compiles bibliographies on various subjects and formats.
Library Instruction
The library orientation is designed to introduce to the students the facilities, organization, services and collection of the library. The orientation is conducted at the beginning of the school year to all freshmen students, transferees, faculty and staff. Informal instruction in research methodology, bibliography making, and search strategy are provided upon request. The Internet In charge gives orientation on the use of the Internet facilities.
Current Awareness Services (CAS) / Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI)
This service includes selection of materials that a user might need and bringing to his attention that the materials are available. A user profile is compiled and documents are matched with user’s interest. The library maintains up-to-date information on a given topic by posting on the bulletin display corner.
Photocopying Services
Reprographic facilities are available in the library provided by CJC Cooperative and other photocopying operators. In case of brownouts, or machine failure, assistance is provided by the staff for photocopying outside the CJC campus
Interlibrary Use
Under this program, faculty and students of Cor Jesu College can use the resources of DPSLA Library participating schools free of charge during Saturdays, and subject to library’s rules or regulations during school days. College, graduate students and faculty can have access to academic libraries while high school students to school libraries only. CJC library reciprocates this service by allowing researchers from other participating institutions.
Database Searching Assistance / Electronic Access
The library offers assistance to online searching / access to electronic databases covering e-journals, e-indexes and e-abstracts, on-line bibliographies, e-books and multimedia resources. On-line access to a few subscribed titles is also available.
Internet Services
A number of online PCs are provided in some sections of the library such as the Law and Graduate School section, the Learning Commons, and the References section. For those bringing their own electronic devices like laptops, tablets and smartphones, Wi-Fi access is provided to administrative, faculty and student account holders.
Collection Development Program – This program aims to develop a collection of information sources in various formats to support the curricular and educational needs of the clientele. The six components of this program are: user needs assessment, collection management policy statements, selection, acquisition, deselection or weeding, and collection evaluation.
Technical Services Program
This program is designed to maintain a well organized collection of information resources for easy retrieval of information. The following services are: Classification, organization, computerization of library services and records.
Staff Development Program
This program is designed to develop efficient and effective library personnel who are committed and responsive to clientele needs. In-Service Training Programs for both professional and non-professional staff are conducted for the development of skills that are needed to work effectively in an electronic environment. Training modules for apprenticeship of Student Grantees are designed to foster effective learning and development of work-related skills.
Physical Plant & Facilities Improvement Program
This program is designed to provide adequate and well-furnished library facilities conducive to learning, with well-designed service areas—inviting, accessible, safe and secure.
Community Extension Program
This program is intended to provide outreach service to adapted barangays. The library aspires to conduct the following activities: a) organize outreach program team; b) establish reading centers; and c) conduct reading room activities such as story telling, book talk, reading aloud, quizzers and games.
