This biology unit plan for the SNC2D course follows the Ontario curriculum and takes approximately six weeks to complete. The biology unit covers both cellular biology and organ systems, as well as a review of microscopy skills and safety. The focus of my learning plan is to provide students with ample formative feedback. My learning plan breaks down the activities into assessments for, as, and of learning. The students will engage in many different active learning activities that will allow them to demonstrate their knowledge, and for the teacher to provide formative feedback on their learning progression. I have also included an example unit test and formative quiz that you may wish to use or adapt in your own teaching. This unit also has many connections to the part A of the curriculum that emphasizes scientific investigation skills. Some of the investigations that are included are hands-on wet labs, Predict-explain-observe-explain (PEOE), and open inquiry labs. The students will also have a presentation that they will record and upload to their online learning platform (e.g. Google Classroom) where they choose a topic to research and then present on an area of interest such as a disease that affects a particular body system or cellular division. My hope is that you will find this unit plan helpful and informative and will cut down on the amount of preparation you will have to do if you teach this unit during your teaching career. My philosophy on the sharing of resources within the teaching community is that we should all strive to share our best teaching materials with one another so that all of our students can have the best learning experience possible. If you have any questions about any of my resources, please contact me at caustin4 [at] alumni [dot] uwo [dot] ca. Disclaimer: I only taught about half of this unit myself, so some resources may be shared from other educators. I will update these resources when I teach this unit in full.

What do I want my students to take away from the unit, what are examples of the kinds of questions that we will ask, what misconceptions will we address and overcome, what content will we cover, and what skills will they develop throughout the unit.
