This letter may be sent home to families as an invitation to join in the learning. Asking for parents' support and expertise creates a bridge to bring generational knowledge into the classroom, and can help to create a community in which parents feel "in the know" while their children are engaging in mature historical topics.
These slides provide key vocabulary (can use in tandem with notebook pages), an overview of the ideas of dominat and counter narratives, and an overview of sixteen of the events suggested for students to study. These notes are suggested to be used over several days.
These research packets include graphic organizers and tools for students to organize their research. Students may or may not complete each page. I recommend printing and binding/stapling these together, but they can also be used digitally.
Although formal exams and multiple choice questions do not fully showcase a students' learning, they are often required by school districts. This exam can be used to provide data to back up students' learning. In addition, several open ended and short essay writing questions allow students to creatively show their knowledge.
