Our Mission
Civicate Youth is a charitable and educational organization that equips young people with civic literacy, public-speaking, and community problem-solving skills to improve local health, safety, and environmental quality.
We focus on expanding local youth civic awareness by hosting booths and campaigns informing young Angelenos about leadership opportunities and how to vote in Neighborhood Council elections.
Founder and Executive Director
Angel is a high school junior at the Harvard-Westlake School and the youth representative of the Greater Valley Glen Neighborhood Council. She founded Civicate Youth after noticing the lack of youth presence in neighborhood councils, and is looking forward to help her peers get civically involved. Outside of Civicate Youth, she competes in speech and ethics bowl, is a member of her school's Community Council, and writes for the Harvard-Westlake Chronicle. During her free time, she enjoys watching nature documentaries and making sweet treats for her friends and family.

Hello, I’m Alexandria Sulaimankhil, and I’m proud to serve as a member of the West Adams Neighborhood Council. I have been involved with the Council for almost a year, participating in community initiatives, engaging with residents, and contributing to discussions that address local needs and priorities within West Adams. I am especially excited to bring recognition to the youth roles in the Council and help everyone understand how young people can make a meaningful impact in our community.
I am currently a student at Laurel Springs School, where I balance my academics with my commitment to community service. Outside of school and Council work, I am actively involved in sports, which has taught me the importance of teamwork, discipline, and responsibility—qualities that I bring to all my community involvement.
I’m passionate about expanding awareness of the Neighborhood Council among young people and encouraging youth participation, particularly through the Youth Representative role. I hope to inspire more young people to get involved, highlight their contributions, and show that their voices truly matter in shaping the future of all Neighborhood Councils.

I am a 16-year-old sophomore, a first-generation Mexican American, and I was raised in the South Central community, which throughout my life has influenced my attitude and dedication. Seeing my family strive to create a brighter future for my sisters and me has taught me the value of perseverance, duty, and giving back to the community. In school, I try my best to improve my academic skills and seize opportunities that will eventually help me achieve my future college and successful career goals. I am proud of my heritage, which drives me to continually strive for achievement, set greater goals for myself, and become a good role model for underclassmen. I am eager not only to improve myself but also to influence others.

My name is Henry Munguia, and I am a sophomore at Foshay Learning Center. I enjoy staying active through sports, especially soccer and swimming, and I am passionate about youth advocacy outside of school. I have also participated in youth leadership programs such as the Redeemer Community Partnership Youth Program, where I contributed to community projects like Normandie Beautiful that focus on improving living conditions and creating a cleaner, safer environment for residents in the area. I believe in working to elevate both my community and myself through leadership and service. To me, success means creating positive change—no matter the form it takes—as long as I am helping others and making a difference.
