Learn to Discern Webinar
This semester, the series focuses on the 2022 midterm elections and voter education. These sessions are designed to help your students become more informed and engaged members of the electorate. These 4 one-hour webinars offer students the opportunity to engage with the material, ask questions, and reconsider how they partake in this genre. Please consider sharing the attached flyer and descriptions below with your class. Each session is recorded and student attendance is documented. The Tarrant County College District has made a commitment to bolstering civic engagement and helping our students advance their knowledge concerning democracy, elections, political institutions, and civic action. In order to meet the commitment made by TCC and to help our instructors to follow the THECB’s requirements, several new initiatives and up-coming events have been planned. We will conclude the session with a brief history of civic engagement at TCC and what instructors can look forward to soon.

Description: Come hear Dr. Bradley Borougerdi tell the sobering story of the lynching of Mr. Fred Rouse and the TCCPJ's work to provide voice and honor for Mr. Rouse's death. Dr. Borougerdi will talk about securing grants and planning memorials in honor of Mr. Rouse and others who were unjustly killed because of race.

Description: 2020 brought a variety of challenges. While the country burned literally and metaphorically, and with the election looming, TCC instructors were left to re-imagine the community events and redefine the role of civic engagement in our college culture. This session will share innovative strategies to encourage socio-political action in the new world through events and interdisciplinary pedagogy. From virtual events to a voter registration drive-thru, we want to share our innovative approach to civic learning and democratic engagement through a twenty-first-century mindset.
