The Citizens for Hinckley Lake is a group of property owners, recreational users, and business owners whom have an interest in the lake. Hinckley Lake (NY) is a man made lake mostly inside the Adirondack Park. Our group was created in the 1990's to advocate and fight for the improvement of water level management at Hinckley. This would help improve the fisheries, aesthetics of the lake, recreation, and the local economy. The Jarvis hydropower project on the dam at Hinckley and the two dams down below the lake, owned by Brookfield Renewable Resources (Brookfield Power), are currently in the early stages of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) relicensing process - It is a five year process. This is a one in forty year opportunity to get a change at Hinckley. Brookfield is legally tied to the management of the water level of the lake. It is vital that we be involved in the relicensing process. When deciding to relicense a hydropower project, FERC must be sure to give all areas of a water way equal consideration. Please consider being a member of our group so we can keep you up to date on the entire FERC relicensing process, be made aware of group meetings, and so you may help make a change at Hinckley that will have an impact for the next 40 years.
We continue to work for a better management of the water. We will continue to update people once more information has come in. As of now, we continue to await more information from NYPA and FERC. We will make updates here as needed and we will continue to post to our facebook page as well! As always, find more information on the whole FERC re-licensing at www.jarvis.nypa.gov, such as our most up to date letters submitted to FERC. And, as always, like our Facebook page!
