“Our nation’s economy depends on a well-educated, high-quality workforce and that means investing in all students,” says Darling-Hammond. “Investments in these students are investments in their future and ours. If we don’t ensure they have the quality schools that their wealthier peers have, we deny far too many of them the opportunity to succeed and to contribute to society.” - excerpt from The Evidence is Clear: More Money For Schools Means Better Student Outcomes
In addition to promoting economic development, good schools help to increase property values. People want to live in districts that have strong schools, and choose not to live in communities that do not. Some of the highest property values in surrounding communities consistently earn high grades on the state report card. Their citizens also pay some of the highest real estate taxes because they understand the correlation between taxes and strong schools.
Having great schools enhances community pride, and demonstrates that the River View Community believes in investing in its future. It also demonstrates to students that the community believes that they are worth the investment.
Passing the levy will enable the District to maintain a quality staff. Hiring and retaining quality teachers is essential for the future of the community; teachers want to teach where there is a sense of financial security and where they know their efforts are appreciated.
Quality staff are better able to prepare students for a future we all know will be rapidly changing; it is estimated that today’s students will change careers (some of which have yet to be identified) at least three times — not jobs, but careers.
Finally, strong schools enable school administrators not only the ability to retain strong teachers, but the ability to attract the best talent. For administrators, it is always frustrating when interviewing an outstanding applicant only to have them choose to sign a contract with another district where they could earn more money.
Families want their children to have a quality education, and if they do not feel the district they live in will provide that education, they will move or open enroll their child in a school that outperforms their home school. A great school brings in new families. Currently, we are THAT school!
"When South-Western’s levy failed in 2009 the district experienced a mass exodus of parents and students. Those who would not tolerate the disservice to their child’s education moved to more prosperous districts in the area. Even when the levy was finally passed that November, many students refused to return. After all, why should they come back to a community that clearly does not value them in the way that children should be valued? Why should they return to a place that put the saving of a few extra dollars above their future and welfare? "
Levies or Bust: Why Voters Should Immediately Start Caring About Our Schools
Open Enrollment - families choose to send their children to River View instead of their home school! The State gives the district more money for Open Enrollment students than they give for local students.
The Purpose of the Open Enrollment Act is to improve educational achievement and to enhance the opportunity for parental choice in education by providing additional options to pupils in the state to enroll in public schools and educational programs throughout the state without regard to pupil residence.
--------------------------------------Cortana, Jensen and Kennedy Bible are proud to be Black Bears, thanks to the great opportunity to be open enrolled in RVLSD (Conesville) each year. The small class sizes, one-on-one attention, open and communicative teachers and staff make being open enrolled a privilege for us.
-Shelly BibleWe are proud to be Black Bear supporters. The staff at our schools deeply care about our kid's futures, and we are proud to be apart of this district.
-Tina BullockWhy I'm proud to be a Black Bear is that this community is a family. It still feels safe, and kids are taught more than computers. Teachers still care and try to give as much one-on-one attention as possible. They live to make the kids better, and they do everything to see you be successful. I could go on, but this is why I believe we are in the best district for us in Ohio. PS. I grew up in Westerville, so I'm not bias .
-Elizabeth WalserAs a former mascot and RV Class of 2010, we want our daughter to have the same opportunities that I once had. The low pay-to-participate fees. We want her to be able to experience the great music program, if she so desires. We also want her to have the option to take college prep classes and foreign languages, if that's the path she wants to take her life on. After graduation, as parents we decided to stay right here in Coshocton County and most importantly in the River View Local School District to help us raise our daughter. We serve the RV community in more ways then just living here. We are on the Suicide Prevention Coalition and Rob (dad) also serves as a fireman for F.C.V. We love the school, teachers and district. Please vote YES!
-Jessica PaynterArden is a proud RV black bear where his daddy also graduated. He’s built wonderful relationships with his teachers and peers. Fun games and activities specified to Arden’s interests and needs pave the way for high achievement and a lifelong love for learning.
