It is a .75% Income Tax.
The River View Board of Education recognizes the communities' inability to support a Property Tax increase and has chosen to take the route of an Income Tax instead.
River View is only asking to replace the money that we have been receiving through the years from AEP's Utility Tax to maintain what we currently have. The District has not received new taxes from the community since 1991, and overall this levy is expected to provide around $2 million per year and will allow the district to stay out of deficit spending as well as not have to make cuts this coming upcoming school year.
It is impressive what River View and it's students have managed to accomplish over the years with ever dwindling funds. There are many districts who provide greater options, services, and opportunities than River View, but do not perform as well on State Assessments.
River View already has seen a loss in tax revenue of over $1 million last school year (2018-2019) due to AEP reductions in generation. This loss will reoccur again this school year (2019-2020), and then in 2020 the approximately $2.2 million from AEP revenue will be lost each year forever. Once AEP stops generation, River View will see an IMMEDIATE drop off.
Our tax base has not seen an increase over the years with it being at the state minimum. However, AEP's public utility tax has enabled us to keep going, although River View has had to make reductions over the years.
The River View community has not approved NEW money for the district in over a quarter of a century!
Throughout the years, River View has continued to make reductions as deemed necessary.
