INTERNATIONAL COLLOQUIUM ON AUDIOVISUAL TRANSLATION 

Event Presentation

We are excited to invite everyone to the 1st International Colloquium on Audiovisual Translation (a partnership between the universities UNILAB/UJI/UFC/UECE), which will take place from December 10th to 12th. This colloquium is organized by the Graduate Program in Translation Studies - POET (UFC) and brings together students, professors, researchers, and professionals to discuss the latest advances and challenges in the field of Audiovisual Translation (AVT), an expanding area due to the increasing demand for accessible and multimedia content in a globalized world.

Justification

This event is justified by the need to deepen the dialogue between academia and the professional market, especially in a context where content localization, dubbing, subtitling, and audio description have become essential tools for social inclusion and linguistic preservation. Furthermore, the exchange of experiences and knowledge between researchers and professionals is crucial for strengthening and improving audiovisual translation practices, allowing them to keep up with new demands and technological innovations.

Objectives

The main objective of the meeting is to promote the dissemination of knowledge about the various modalities of AVT, exploring both theoretical and practical aspects. Specific objectives include:

• Discussing the current landscape of the audiovisual translation market;

• Analyzing academic training opportunities in the field;

• Sharing the latest research on accessibility through AVT;

• Developing basic skills in dubbing, subtitling, and audio description.

Activities

The event's program is packed with enriching activities, including lectures, workshops, and roundtable discussions. The event will open with a lecture by Prof. Dr. Frederic Chaume, from Universitat Jaume I (UJI), who will address the modalities and workflows in audiovisual translation. From there, participants will have the opportunity to attend dubbing, subtitling, and audio description workshops led by renowned specialists. Additionally, roundtable discussions on topics such as "Training and the AVT Job Market" and "Research in Accessible Audiovisual Translation" will provide a space for in-depth debates on the challenges and advancements in the field.
