In order to successfully complete this course, you should plan your schedule very carefully and try to stick to it.
Look carefully at your work schedule, school schedule, and family obligations and allow plenty of time for each.
This is a 4-unit semester-length class that has been condensed into 10 weeks. Some weeks there may be 16+ hours of homework, some weeks less.
You are taking an online class; it is your responsibility to have access to a computer and backup your files. What does this mean? Computer crashes, lost disk information, Internet access becomes unavailable, hardware/software difficulties, or your dog eating your keyboard do not constitute reasons for late work.
I require that you check your Canvas account at least twice a week. Canvas tells me when you have logged in/out.
If I see that you have not logged in for two weeks or have not submitted assignments during that time, I will contact you and may ask you to drop. This is one reason why it is so important to keep in contact with me. I want to help you work through your problems.
Once class begins, please e-mail me ONLY through our Canvas classroom.
Check your Canvas mail at least twice a week
In Canvas, I have the ability to send messages to both your home and Canvas emails. It will look as though I am sending you the e-mail from my WVC account. Most students appreciate this because it reminds them that they have an online class.
If you are having problems finishing assignments or maybe just struggling, please email me through canvas. I would like to help.
Important: By Thursday of Week 1, you must have logged into our course in Canvas and made first post to the Meet and Greet. discussion forum.
Most weeks there will be a mandatory discussion board on various subjects, and you will be asked to post an opinion or comment on the week’s topic. You also must respond to two other student's post.
These are graded forums and participation in each is required for a passing grade.
Your posts are worth up to 15 points, depending on the depth of your post. I will give you more information about this in your assignments. BTW, “Yes, I agree” is not a post.
This Discussion Board is located on the home page of our Canvas classroom. It is for you and your classmates to post questions, comments, etc. Please check it weekly.
Before you ask me a question, I ask that you first post your question on the Discussion Board. Why? I’m not online 24/7. It is very likely that some of your classmates have the same questions and some of them have the answers. If no one has answered your question within a day or two, please contact me.
When taking an online course, you must take the initiative to post questions to the Coffee Café discussion board if you do not understand the material.
I hope this doesn't happen, but if you need to drop after the first week, it is your responsibility to do so or risk receiving an “F” in class.
If I see that you are not completing your work, logging in, etc., I may drop you after trying to work with you. If you are dropping because you are feeling overwhelmed, please talk to me first. I’m here to help you get through that and want this to be a positive experience for you.
