What is SMTP?
SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is used to send emails from one device to another. In Packet Tracer, we simulate email communication using a Mail Server and two PCs.
Devices You Need: 4 PCs
2 Switches
1 Router
1 Server (for email)
Step 1: Connect Everything PC1 & PC2 → to Switch1
Server & PC3 & PC4 → to Switch2
Switch1 ↔ Router ↔ Switch2
Use copper straight-through for PC/Switch Use copper cross-over for Switch ↔ Router
Step 2: IP Addresses
Step 3: Basic Router Setup Go to Router → CLI:
Step 4: Configure the Server Go to Config tab → Email
Turn ON SMTP and POP3
Add two users:
xyz@email.local (password: 123)
pqr@email.local (password: 123)
Step 5: Setup Email on PCs On PC1 and PC2:
Go to Desktop → Email
Fill:
Email: xyz@mail.local / pqr@mail.local
SMTP & POP3: 192.168.2.2 (Server IP)
Username & Password
Step 6: Send & Receive On PC1, compose email to teddy@mail.local
On PC2, click Receive
