Circular by Nature is a flagship research project by the Circular Development Initiative. This research compiles and documents empirical practices (case studies) of nature-based solutions (NbS) that support biological circularity (e.g., nutrient cycling, carbon cycling, water cycling, etc.). We include Indonesian and global case studies. The research aims to inform urban and regional development policy on the importance of nature-based circularity and how NbS play significant roles in delivering bio-circularity-related ecosystem services.
Methodology:
The method used in this research is a literature review. We collect data from secondary sources such as reports, documents, websites, news, webinars, and social media channels. We analyze the data deductively with a framework that is previously prepared. The analysis includes potential ecosystem services (i.e., circularity-related and co-benefits), governance, financial sources, and scale of implementation.
Some of the case studies we have compiled are community and kitchen gardens, urban bamboo forests, urban pocket forests, green vertical and green roofs, azolla and duckweed, microalgae, black soldier fly, and mangrove.
