Lesson 9:
- The square of a tangent to a circle from an external point equals the product of the intercepts of any secants from the point
- Can find a GeoGebra file for the property here: Diagrams
- Main activity: students work in pairs to consider and apply strategies for proving this tangent/secant property
Revision (Homework/Booklet): Geometry
- In groups of 4, students are provided an A3 paper to write down and draw anything they remember about geometry (concepts, examples). Afterwards, students present their work and are asked by the teacher to elaborate on concepts that will be relevant for circle geometry
- Students revise the methods for proving two triangles are congruent or similar, as well as revisit the Pythagoras Theorem via worksheets.
Bonus Lesson: Arcs
- Main activity - students investigate how masons/architects construct arcs and domes, as well as create their own via Sketchup and GeoGebra
Bonus Lesson: Arcs/Sectors
- Main activity - students are tasked with designing a Ferris Wheel or carousel ride for Luna Park, determining how many passenger cars/animals can be fitted with adequate room in-between
Bonus Lesson: Arc/Circumference/Angles
- Main activity - students follow the work of Eratosthenes and calculate the circumference of the Earth
