I am the mother of two boys who attend elementary school in HBCSD and I am passionate about education. I believe schools are the gateway to opportunity for all children and building a solid foundation of academics is paramount, but kids need and deserve so much more. Education in the arts, science, and technology all play a part in equipping them for an increasingly complex world. If elected, I will foster a partnership between parents and schools to set aside divisive political and social issues and focus instead on developing a world-class learning environment for our teachers, staff, and students.
For most of my adult life I lived in the Washington, DC area supporting Special Operations Forces as an intelligence analyst, where I learned to take in vast amounts of information, discern its importance, and quickly make difficult decisions. It was not just a job, but a mission requiring deployment overseas and 24/7 support; not sustainable with young children. When my family relocated, HBCSD schools were the primary reason we chose Huntington Beach. While I didn’t grow up here, my background contributes unique perspectives that apply creative problem solving to school safety and many issues confronting our school communities.
