Prior to joining FSU, I taught in the Department of Linguistics, Languages, and Cultures at Michigan State University, the Department of Modern and Classical Languages at Saint Joseph's University, the English Language Programs at the University of Pennsylvania, and the English Language Center at Drexel University.
In these roles, I have taught and developed graduate and undergraduate courses about topics in applied linguistics and language teacher education, as well as courses in English and Spanish as additional languages. See each category below for more information.
I have developed and taught these courses at Florida State University, Michigan State University, and Saint Joseph's University for undergraduate and graduate students with a concentration in TESOL, linguistics, or education. Key assignments have included designing, implementing and reflecting on pedagogical activities, analyzing examples of learner language use, and writing a reflective-analytical language learning autobiography.

Feedback from students:
"Something I think Carlo did well in class was connecting the content covered in lecture to real life scenarios. As a future educator, and what I have been learning about for three years now, is that those connections are important for students fo all ages to really grasp a concept. It also seemed that Carlo cared a lot about what us students had to say when thinking about assignmetns and how the class is run. He gave us some autonomy and I respect that highly." (Second and Foreign Language Learning, Michigan State University, Fall 2023)
"I enjoyed how this class was structured and I am glad I was able to take it with Professor Cinaglia. I learned a lot." (Second and Foreign Language Learning, Michigan State University, Summer 2021)
"The way that you create the coursework to be engaging and interactive is extremely helpful in retaining the content presented, and your breakdown of the subject matter helped me to understand more deeply each topic. I feel that I have learnd a lot from this class and will be able to take with me what has been learned into my future profession. Thanks for a great semester!" (Second Language Acquisition and Learning, Saint Joseph's University, Spring 2020)
"I think Professor Carlo is one of the best Spanish teachers at SJU. His class is very interactive which makes students engaged in the content. he also focuses on applying the material to our everyday lives which is important in order to understand the content. Professor Carlo made the class interesting and he never left students with unanswered questions. He also would help students that were struggling and tried to have students engage with the content (even if they weren't confident). I loved Professor Carlo and the course as a whole. I'm not sure if I would have liked Spanish as much as I did if I had another professor." (Intermediate Spanish I, Saint Joseph's University, Spring 2020)
"Carlo is a funny and considerate teacher, and he is really an expert on teaching. I love Carlo's teaching style. He helped me a lot." (Leadership and Teambuilding, University of Pennsylvania English Language Programs, Summer 2019)
"Carlo is an excellent teacher. He always cares about his students and helps them with everything that he can." (Conversation Strategies, University of Pennsylvania English Language Programs, Summer 2017)
"This class was very interesting. I had a lot of fun as well as learned new things and improved my writing skills." (Writing Accurately and Clearly, University of Pennsylvania English Language Programs, Spring 2016)
"Professor Cinaglia did a great job by helping me to achieve my goals for this course." (Introduction to Academic Discourse, Saint Joseph's University, Fall 2016)
"Very helpful and cooperative. Helps students with clarifications and directions for assignments. Very reasonable and flexible and considerate of time and workload for different projects and assignments." (Introduction to Linguistics, Saint Joseph's University, Fall 2016)
