Roots of Putin’s War on Ukraine and the Road Ahead

with Paule Robitaille

Paule Robitaille is a longtime journalist who has reported on Russia’s wars in Georgia, Azerbaijan and Chechnya for Radio-Canada, among others. She has also been a member of Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Board. In 2018, she was elected to Quebec’s National Assembly in 2018, where she served as international affairs critic for the Liberal opposition. She has visited Ukraine twice since the Russian invasion began in February. Drawing on her experience and knowledge of the region, she will trace the origins of the war, reflect on the way it is being reported and assess prospects for the future. A question period will follow, along with refreshments.

Les origines de la guerre de Poutine contre l’Ukraine et l’avenir

Journaliste chevronnée qui a témoigné l’écroulement de l’Union soviétique, et couvert ainsi les guerres en Géorgie, en Azerbaïdjan et en Tchétchénie pour le compte de Radio-Canada, entre autres, Paule Robitaille a également siégé à la Commission de l’immigration et du statut de réfugié. Ēlu à l’Assemblée nationale du Québec en 2018, elle a été critique en matière de relations internationales pour l’opposition libérale. Elle s’est rendue en Ukraine à deux reprises depuis l’invasion russe. Elle discutera des origines de la guerre, de la couverture médiatique de part et d’autre, et réfléchira sur l’avenir du conflit. Une période de questions suivra ainsi qu’un vin-fromage.
