WHAT is the Walk-a-Thon?
This is a school-wide fundraiser where students will get pledges and walk laps on a marked course to raise money for Cicero Elementary.
Our goals:
Promote a healthy and active lifestyle to our students
Raise money to support PTG funded activities and events
WHEN is the Walk-a-Thon?
The Walkathon will take place at Cicero Elementary during school hours on Friday, September 29th, with a rain date of Monday, October 2nd. Participation is free, and students will walk with their classmates during their assigned time.
WHY a Walk-a-Thon?
Previously Cicero Elementary has done several fundraisers per year, which included selling items. We have found that one fundraiser with 100% profit is more beneficial to Cicero Elementary and its families. How does it work?
The process is simple. Students will ask people to be “Sponsors.”
Sponsors can be friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, etc..
Sponsorship is a single donation via cash, checks (made out to Cicero El PTG), or by credit/debit cards (see Donate button to the right).
Sponsorship is NOT based on laps or minutes walked.
“Sponsors” are simply those generous folks who agree to donate money for your participation as a walker in the Walk-a-thon!
100% of donations will benefit Cicero Elementary students and all donations are tax deductible for your sponsors!
When do I turn in my donations?
Students need to turn in their sponsor/donations sheets and money collected by Thursday, September 28th
If your student cannot participate on the day of the Walkathon, please send their money to school earlier.

How do I fill out the donation sheets?
The donation sheets are where you keep track of all the people who have donated money for you to walk, and the amount that was donated.
If you need additional donation forms, please click here to download. Extras will be also available in the school office.
Steps to follow:
When you ask someone to sponsor you, tell them who you are, that you are raising money for your school, and how they can help. You might say,
“Hello my name is ___________ and I go to school at Cicero Elementary! I am raising money for my school by participating in a Walk-a-thon on Friday, September 30th at my school. Would you like to sponsor me?”
Explain that the sponsorship is a single donation, and not based on laps or minutes walked, and their donation is tax-deductible! You should let the sponsor know that your money must be turned in the day before the Walk-a-Thon so you may collect the money right then, or return at a later time to pick it up prior to the Walk-a-Thon. Cash, checks, and credit/debit cards are accepted. Checks should be made out to “Cicero El PTG”. Have sponsor fill in their name, payment method, and donation amount on the Donation Form.
Remember to say “THANK YOU!”
Out-of-town Sponsors
*If you talk or email a relative/friend who is out of town, have them send their donation to YOU and not to Cicero Elementary so that you can be sure to receive credit for the donation. Record their donation and information on your Donation Sheet. This year we’re also accepting credit/debit cards, which will help with people who are out of town but still want to donate!
INSTRUCTIONS FOR CREDIT / DEBIT CARD DONATIONS:
We are now able to accept credit/debit cards through PayPal! Please note - You do NOT need a PayPal account to donate using a credit/debit card. Family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and other sponsors are now able to make a donation with a credit/debit card using our PayPal donation button - scroll to the top of this page and look for the Yellow DONATE button and the Paypal logo!
Directions:
To donate please visit the PTG section under our school’s website and click on the Walk- a- Thon tab.
Then there will be a yellow "DONATE" button you can click on.
Next you’ll have to enter a credit/debit card number.
In the message section, please include the student's name and grade so that they’ll receive credit for the donation made - we can't give credit to student if not included - we’re unable to track the donation any other way!
