These newly developed undergraduate and graduate courses were created to meet program-specific needs at Texas A&M University–Central Texas. Each course was fully designed from the ground up, including outcomes, assessments, and instructional content. All were approved through the university’s Curriculum Inventory Management (CIM) system.
Two graduate-level courses were designed as part of the Dyslexia Education Micro-Credential, while the undergraduate course was created to fulfill requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Education degree.

Developed to fulfill a core requirement in the Bachelor of Science in Education
Emphasizes the selection and integration of diverse, high-quality literature that reflects a pluralistic society
Covers a range of genres, authors, and literary elements with a focus on critical evaluation and classroom application
Prepares future educators to use children’s books as “mirrors, windows, and sliding glass doors” across the K–6 curriculum
Part of the Dyslexia Education Micro-Credential
Focuses on evidence-based intervention strategies across the five pillars of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension
Emphasizes the design and delivery of structured literacy lessons that are explicit, systematic, and multisensory
Prepares educators to evaluate intervention approaches and apply diagnostic assessments to support students with dyslexia and related reading disabilities
Part of the Dyslexia Education Micro-Credential
Examines how reading develops in the brain and how scientifically based research has shaped the field’s understanding of dyslexia and related disabilities
Explores developmental patterns in oral language, decoding, spelling, fluency, comprehension, and writing in both typical and atypical learners
Addresses current issues in dyslexia definition, assessment, service delivery, and educational equity across the lifespan
