Homecoming fundraiser

Every year, the National Art Honor Society sells red and black spirit beads and offers face painting services as both a fundraiser and way to get CHS excited for homecoming and the new school year. For this year's Spirit Bead and face painting fundraiser, we need volunteers to help out with the following:

    • Spirit Bead Sales - Volunteers will walk around the lunchroom area to advertise the bead sale. Be sure to let people know that beads are $0.50 each and can be purchased outside the cafeteria. Don't forget about the people who don't eat inside the cafeteria!
    • Face Painting Booth - Volunteers will help paint faces in red and black. A sheet of suggested face painting designs (ex. dots) will be provided, but it's really up to whatever you think you can handle and what CHS students want. Each design costs $1.00.

All volunteers are highly encouraged to wear red and black and can get their faces painted for free, if they want.

NAHS Mural

To help educate and inspire the students of CHS artistically, the National Art Honor Society puts up a mural inspired by a famous painting every year. All members participate in creating the mural, which is decorated with inspiring, art-related quotes submitted by each member. Our past murals have included the following:

    • Der Schrei der Natur / The Scream (Edvard Munch)
    • Water Lilies (Claude Monet)

Community impact

Empty Bowls Fundraiser

For the first time in February of 2020, NAHS hosted Empty Bowls at CHS. Empty Bowls is an event where volunteers make clay bowls to raise funds for a local food bank, St. Leo's Soup Kitchen. Our event has three parts:

February 3rd - 6:00pm-9:00pm

Each person will make a bowl out of provided clay to be sold for a donation to St. Leo's Soup Kitchen on February 25th. Any and all community members are welcome to join us at CHS!

February 12th - 2:30pm-3:30pm (NAHS ONLY)

As our activity following our February Painting of the Month meeting, all NAHS members will be glazing the bowls. This event is mandatory for all NAHS members -- we will have a lot to do, and it will take all of us to get it done after school.

February 25th - 5:00pm-7:00pm

Those who made bowls on the 3rd will be able to pick them up at CHS. Soup will also be provided; if you would like to donate soup or desserts, please sign-up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0B4BABAC2FA3FD0-empty. Note that soup should be brought in a crockpot to stay warm. There will also be a spot for cash donations to a local food bank!

Calm-Down Mural

Churchill's Center Program requested that NAHS paint a mural in their Calm Down room during the 2019-2020 school year. Our goal with the mural was to create something that would be visually appealing, yet not overwhelming, using calming shades of blue. During December and January, we designed and painted a peace sign made of multicolored waves and surrounded by clouds representing dawn, noon, and dusk.

Church Mural

From March to May 2019, the CHS National Art Honor Society worked collaboratively to create a mural commissioned by the Newburg United Methodist Church. The mural, consisting of three separate panels and painted with acrylic, depicts various musical instruments to highlight the important role music has in faith. In total, the mural took over 15 hours to complete!

Laurel Park Mural

In November 2018, the CHS National Art Honor Society was asked to paint one of three murals on a now-closed storefront inside Laurel Park Mall, along with the FHS and SHS societies. Beginning on Black Friday, the murals were voted on by shoppers; while our mural only ranked third place, it was still an incredible opportunity for the CHS NAHS to help our local community celebrate the holidays through art.
