Castle Way Energy is proposing a solar farm to the North of Church Broughton as part of a wider, multiple area proposal. The power from any installation around our village needs to get to Willington East 400 kV substation, roughly 7 miles away as the crow flies. Note that Derbyshire County Council (DCC) is already objecting to the 37 mile Chesterfield to Willington High Voltage overhead line to this same substation, which is needed to take the power away from our area.
The primary area affecting Church Broughton and Barton Blount is referred to as "Site B" in CWE's proposal. It is shown below. It is immediately adjacent and very close to residential homes on Ashbourne Road and the Entrance Drive to Barton Hall.
In addition, Castle Way will need to disrupt large tracks of land to connect the separate sites. It is currently highlighting a number of "Cable Corridor Options", as it refers to them. They are shown below in the solid blocks of colour.
The two pictures below are a "before and after" representation of what some of our fields will look like, if solar panels are installed. The affacted area will be much larger than this. This view shows the area to the North and North West of St Michaels' church in Church Broughton.
