Grand Opening Target August 2026
Playground revitalization project, commissioned by the Principal and Vice Principal of Coventry Hills Elementary School and stakeholders, as determined by the CBE, is being undertaken by the Outdoor Space Committee, in joint partnership between the School Council and Coventry Hills Elementary Fundraising Society (CHEFS), to build a new playground for the school and surrounding community.
The scope of this project will include replacing the old playground with new playground equipment that will remain within the current footprint. Ground reclamation around the playground will also be included, with the possibility of a path leading from the playground to the cement compound and back of school for inclusive access.
Create a playground that is inclusive and benefits children of all abilities, while allowing a larger number of children access to play, learn and grow at a given time. Soft surfacing rubber will be added to aid in inclusivity. All these objectives will be obtained at the end of construction which is projected to be from July 2026 to the end of August 2026
Surveying the school and surrounding communities for a list of wants and needs to be included in the new playground
Selecting a vendor based off evaluation criteria obtained from surveys and research
Choosing a design from the chosen vendor based off voting by the school and surrounding communities
Obtaining the necessary funds for construction of the playground by means of fundraising, grant submissions, donation requests and applying for matching grants
The report indicating the wants and needs of the school and surrounding community
Request for Proposal document sent to potential vendors that will determine vendor eligibility and aid in evaluations for choosing a vendor
A winning design for construction by the chosen vendor, obtained through voting
A financial plan that includes goals for each means of monetary inclusion towards the main monetary goal
Complete list of possible grants, donation requests and matching grants
Financial tracking of the monetary status and its implication to the project completion
Fundraising plan that will indicate to potential donors and grant boards our dedication and personal responsibility towards the financial success of this project
Accounts set up through Parks Foundation Calgary and Benevity, to aid in obtaining and tracking monetary and in kind donations, as well as qualify for the matching grant through Parks Foundation, in addition to providing tax receipts through Parks Foundation Calgary and Benevity.
An inclusive playground that aligns to the wants and needs, of both the school community and our surrounding community
Project will not include the naturalization space on school grounds, nor the maintenance of the playground, once the project is complete.
This project may encounter changes to the timeline as we work based on the availability and schedules of others, such as the vendor themselves and CBE.
There is a potential for changes to the financial plan as the project progresses, due to price changes, competition and the ability to obtain the necessary funds.
Financial hardship may also lead to a change in the schedule of completion.
A lack of volunteers and their available hours may lead to an extended timeline, in order to obtain the funds needed through fundraising, donations and applications for sponsorships and grants.
