How often do you practice?
We practice 3 days/week, generally Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Monday practices are right after school, and Wednesday and Friday practices are 6-8 AM. You can plan on 1-2 games/week in the fall, and 1-3 games/week in the winter. We are all on one team (no JV/Varsity), but we do split up the team into two groups to help ease the schedule a bit!
How much does it cost?
Exact costs are not calculated yet, but with the COVID-19 outbreak going on, we will be trying to keep the cost lower than previous years. We have lots of fundraising opportunities available to help on individual accounts, and payment plans are available!
How long is the season?
Our season typically starts in June, and we have non-mandatory summer practices and conditioning, camps, and choreography through the end of July. In August, we start mandatory practices and events, and run through mid-March. Holiday breaks are given, but we may have extra practices on teacher work days/other non-school days.
What kind of service work do you do?
We help the animal shelter with a couple events, and have enjoyed helping at the Idaho State Journal's Kids Matter event. We help our school by donating and performing at our school auction, the Round Up. We run the concession stand several times during the year, and write thank you cards to our veterans. Smaller projects come up throughout the year and we love being involved!
I have NO experience. Should I even try out?
Of course! You just never know! You'll learn a lot, and if you are coachable and willing to work hard, you might just find that this is for you!
What about boys?
Boys are more than welcome to try out! We've been a co-ed team for three years, and we absolutely love what our boys bring to our team. As stated above, it's okay if you don't have any experience! We're willing to work with other sports (within reason), and the boys' costs are typically less than the girls. There are TONS of college scholarship opportunities out there for our gentlemen!
Can I work / take AP classes / do another sport and still be a cheerleader?
A calendar is handed out to the team two weeks before the new month starts so you can easily work with your boss/other coaches and teachers. Century offers a homework lab after school that can be extremely helpful in getting some extra uninterrupted study time in! It is possible to do it all - but communication is KEY!
