Abstract: Through exploring the intersectionality of relational trust and racial literacy, participants will learn how to plan for a yearlong deep dive into talking about race in their setting. A variety of strategies, resources, and activities will be modeled and shared in this session that can then be directly and immediately applied to any educational, coaching, or team setting. Participants will begin by establishing relational trust through self-work and sharing that work with others. Then, they will explore characteristics of, and how to respond to, White Supremacy Culture. Finally, they will engage in a case study of how one school began to talk about race, examining the key systems and structures that proved helpful as well as the pitfalls. Participants will have reflection time to consider their own systems and structures and how these can be leveraged towards meaningful discussions in their own organizations using the Courageous Conversation protocol.
