My educational and professional goals are very important to me because accomplishing my goals would allow me to work in a successful career in healthcare, which has been my dream ever since I was a child. My educational goal is to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science and take the certification exam following to become a certified Medical Laboratory Scientist. With this degree and certification, I will be able to get a promotion at work. I am already working in the lab as a Medical Lab Technician so this degree will allow me to advance to the next position. With this degree and certification, it could also lead me to a potential undecided goal of mine to obtain a master’s degree and have the potential to be a laboratory manager or a university professor in the STEM field.
From taking the survey, as well as our readings, it is apparent that in your profession it is desired to be professional, well written and spoken, and have a complete understanding of your scope of practice. I have the benefit of prior experience working in a biology lab. I also have a major benefit in that I am currently working in the lab that I will continue working in with the completion of my program. This is a benefit because I am already known and valued where I work so the unfamiliarity of new employment is a stress I can avoid. What I would like to learn and accomplish in my college experience is the best way to perform my job and the knowledge needed to be the best worker I can be.
What I need to achieve this goal is to stay focused, dedicated, and keep the end goal in mind. I will also need to stay in good communication with my professors and make sure the material I am learning makes sense to me. My plan to ensure I achieve both my professional and educational goals is to stay motivated. I already have the job lined up so the stress of getting my professional goal met is all contingent on my educational goals. My plan is to work constantly on my homework, dedicate the appropriate time needed to study, and look to my job to help provide me with real examples of the types of things I will be learning in school. With my job standing behind me, and a dedicated study plan I look forward to finishing college and starting my life on a positive note.
