Teaching

Since 2010 I have been actively involved in the design and implementation of teaching for mathematics teaching in the secondary school; since 2014 I have designed my own courses, which I run independently and which are continuously developed further (see here for a list and description of the courses I taught).

Teaching future teachers matters to me in a specific way and I have the aspiration to set a good example in my lectures and in the supervision of my students beyond the courses. One of the key features of my teaching is to involve students to engage with state of the art and cutting-edge research that they explore theoretically, but also in practical experience. For example, I am currently developing a course on international perspectives on mathematics education, aiming at establish awareness for how contextual, cultural, and historical backgrounds shape the development and implementation of curricula and teaching approaches to foster future teachers' skills in reflecting teaching praxis. The students’ appreciation of my engagement is reflected in being awarded the 2016 teaching award (together with the working group of Prof. Dr. Andreas Büchter) at the University of Duisburg-Essen.

In addition to my previous teaching, I am currently developing new seminars, inspired by my experience at the Graduate School of Education at UC Berkeley, but also motivated by what I learned at conferences.

Since October 2019, I am furthermore actively involved in the promotion of undergraduate research, having mentored three undergraduate students in the context of UC Berkeley’s ‘Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program’ (see here, also for my supervision of master's students).
