Pastor Dwane Massenburg earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech and a Master of Divinity degree from Virginia Union University. He has held many church positions, including deacon, trustee, youth minister, treasurer, Young Entrepreneurs Club chairperson, Sunday school superintendent, Marriage Ministry chairperson, and associate pastor. He has ten (10) years of experience as a senior pastor of traditional churches. He is currently the pastor of Christians United Congregation (a ministry focused on working outside the four (4) walls of the church). He and his wife have three grown children and seven grandchildren.
I have been teaching, counseling, and encouraging others to live their best life in and for Christ for a long time. I am very compassionate about reaching and caring for others. Due to my husband’s corporate position changes and relocations, I have lived in five different states. I have served in various capacities at various churches, including Deaconess, Assistant Head Usher, Director of Christian Education, Preachers Partners, Sunday School Teacher, and choir member. I have co-chaired a Marriage Ministry with my husband in a church with over 2,000 members. We continue to counsel and encourage couples. I am a member of the Danville Ministers’ Wives and Ministers’ Widows and Vicinity.
It has been a pleasure to be a part of Christians United Congregation for the past eight years. It fits my personality because one of my spiritual gifts is “Helps.” Scripture says, “Go out into the highways and hedges and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full.” ~ Luke 14:23. “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.” ~ Matthew 25:40. This is why CUC exists. We want to show that we care for our brothers and sisters, which in God’s heart is love. Acts of kindness towards others are acts towards Christ himself. Whenever we invest in others, it gives light not only to them but to ourselves, as well. We must give time, energy, love, and resources to those in need.
It was during the pandemic that I was questioning where I needed to be in this season and where I should be using the gifts God has given to me. God did not tell me to leave where I was, but I knew that the gifts were His gifts and they were for the body of Christ. I have always had a heart for those whom the world sometimes considers less fortunate or sometimes forgotten. They are God’s creation too! Many of them are outside the walls of the church. This is where God calls us to be His Hands and His Feet in the earth.
I knew the hearts of Pastor and First Lady Massenburg when it came to God’s Ministry. They love God’s people and were not afraid to step outside of the walls of the church to do what God had instructed them to do. After attending several Christians United Congregation (CUC) meetings, events and seeing the mission and vision in action, I decided to join them and use the gifts God has given me to assist this ministry while still being involved in my home church. They (we) love to demonstrate the LOVE of God and boldly proclaim the GLORY of God!
Phillip and Julia Gee have been members of the Christians United Congregation (CUC) Board in 2023. They bring a variety of church experiences from many different areas of the country.
Phillip and Julia Gee are long-term friends. They were actually in the same 1st grade class. In June 2026, they will celebrate 45 years of marriage. After living in a number of different locations, they moved back to Virginia to be closer to family.
As Phillip and Julia have maneuvered through each of life’s phases, opportunities, and challenges, their faith in God and commitment to the Church grow stronger. The Gees have diligently practiced serving outside the four walls of the church. From organizing and supporting food pantries that support indigent families in the community to being mentors in the public school system. They also advocate for people with Parkinson’s Disease and their care partners. Recently, the Gees have accepted the challenge of being advocates for minorities participating in clinical drug trials. The Bible instructs us not just to listen to the word …. but to do what it says. The Gees strongly support the vision and mission of Christians United Congregation (CUC), glorifying God and demonstrating His love to others.
Joe Settle was born in Rockingham County, NC. I was raised by my auntie. Knowing how rough it was for me growing up led me to always want to help others in need. My heart was always beyond the four walls of the church. There was always lots of help inside, but not enough on the outside. CUC is a blessing inside and outside the four walls. I have learned a lot and am still learning. It is a blessing to be a part of a team that is helping people all across America.
I love being a part of CUC. Having a collaboration with like-minded individuals has allowed me to be a part of achieving positive Christian impact on multiple people and communities, so great that it could never be done alone. As a minister, CUC has taught and encouraged me to show my faith by my works (James 2:18).
I, Minister Kevin M. Callahan, was born in Richmond, VA, and lived there for five years. My parents decided to move back to their hometown of Lunenburg County, VA, and that is where my schooling and church growth started. I was a member of West Hill Baptist Church, where my parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents attended. I locked in on God's Word as a young child and started teaching youth Bible Study at the age of 15. Currently, I am a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church and the Founder and Host of The Expositor's Corner Online Ministries. I've been a part of CUC for a little less than a year, but I love the vision Pastor Massenburg has for CUC. Proverbs 29:18 says, "Where there is no vision, the people perish". The right team always helps define the dream. CUC has that team!
