We are a 501-C3
Religious Organization
Why did we come to exist?
Matthew 16:15-19 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
15He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" 16Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." 17And Jesus said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. 19I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven."
Jesus said, "I will build my church." Does that mean the buildings we have today in the 21st century? No. It means a body of Christian believers. In the Greek "ekklesia" means a religious congregation or community of members on earth.
"This word stresses a group of people called out for a special purpose. It designated the new society of which Jesus was the founder, being as it was a society knit together by the closest spiritual bonds and altogether independent of space." (Strong's Exhaustive Concordance; 2001; Thomas Nelson Publishers, church; Greek; 1577)
In other words, since all Christians believe in the same founder, and we all have the same special purpose we should be working together to promote Christianity. We can work both inside of our local congregations and together as believers in Christ.
In short, we exist to fulfill the work of Christians that a local congregation may find it hard to accomplish on their own.
