Weathering and Erosion

What is Weathering and Erosion?

  • Weathering is the breaking down or dissolving of rocks and minerals on Earths surface. Once a rock has been broken down, a process called erosion transports the bits of rock and minerals away.

  • Example of weathering: Wind and water cause small pieces of rock to break off at the side of a mountain.

  • Example of erosion: Wind carries small pieces of rock away from the side of a mountain.
