Food insecurity is the condition where people cannot reliably access adequate, nutritious food. Lack of financial and other resources may be the cause it. People who are food insecure struggle to avoid hunger, throughout the day. In our video we choose to highlight how food insecurity affects children in schools throughout the Chicago land area, and throughout The United States as well. Whether it be in private or public schools, the struggle can be seen almost everywhere. We’re trying to specifically call the attention of school boards and parents, to feel the need to call for action to help students succeed. As well as other students, officials of towns, and the workforce inside of grammar schools and high schools to understand how not having a proper nutritious lunch effects the children and their performance throughout the school day. Being students, we have all been in the same shoes, we have seen first hand that within our own school, we see peers and even friends sitting sad and lunch-less. What we need to come to realize is that these children are the future of the world, without having the fuel/food in their systems they will lack energy and motivation to perform well in school. Because of the lack of food it can cause students to perform poorly academically within the school, this eventually causes the problem more and more budget cuts within the overall funding of the institution. Making it even more difficult for students to be able to receive the necessities they need to succeed academically.

Food insecurity is a sensitive issue to many people throughout our world. To many people this is not a problem at all, they have never had to make a difficult choice between paying for food, other necessities: school tuition, all sorts of bills, car payments, and even clothes for children. But, for those who are affected the effects on the family are clear. Food insecurity can cause many problems, some go unnoticed, but many of its effects are clear. For example, if a student does not have sufficient food at home it can cause children to fall behind in school, if they are hungry in school it can cause a lack of focus, or motivation to do school work. Imagine a child taking a test, but their stomach grumbles, they may be embarrassed thinking other people heard, and it most importantly it causes them to lose focus. Children are the future. We need to protect, nurture, and provide as much as we possibly can in order to have a strong future. In some cases, this is easier said than done. In 2016 sixteen million kids struggled with hunger, that means, out of those 16 million kids there was a parent or legal guardian who had failed to provide their child with sufficient food. The child waking up and wondering, “What am I going to eat today and how am I going to get it?”. This should not be a concern for anyone in the world, let alone a young child in school. Children often become discouraged, aggressive and depressed when they are lacking their basic needs to survive. Often times the world “survival” is mainly connected with with animal kingdom in the wilderness, you must eat to survive, and if you do not, you may not make it. . This should be correlated animals only, not with the next generation who has an their whole future ahead of them, full of endless possibilities and goals to complete.

This video was fun to edit there are so many theatrical elements that you can add in while editing. For example, the music in the video was chosen because it makes the listener feel sad. That is important to add because it promotes pathos in the video. The transitions in the video are also important because they provide a change in ideas and when done right they add to the message. These elements may seem unimportant when compared to pure logos but, when trying to convey a message that evokes empathy onto viewers, the director/author would do well to remember the essential aspects of a piece of art. In Aristotle’s essay called The Poetics, he lists several things that are needed to make a convincing message in a story. The two that are chiefly in the video are music and theme.
