Bridgett vonHoldt from Princeton University, visited Penn State this week, and give a lecture for at the first Biology Department seminar of the 2025-26 academic year!
In this paper we integrate mathematical models, agent-based simulations, and ancient DNA analysis to investigate farming’s expansion. This approach allows us to disentangle and quantify the relative contributions of cultural diffusion and between-group mating.

We're excited to announce that Julien has been accepted into the Penn State Schreyer Honors College! Julien will now be working on an independent undergraduate thesis project in addition to his current work in the lab.
In this paper, we review case studies from the literature showing how admixture analysis methods reveal patterns of human mobility. In doing so, we also discuss key challenges, including issues of data quality, demographic complexity, and sample representativeness in drawing admixture and migration inferences.

We're excited to announce that Matthew Williams is embarking on his next academic chapter as affiliate assistant professor at Penn State and associate professor at Walla Walla University. Matthew will continue advancing his research on reconstructing ancient demographic histories and exploring how past communities adapted to diverse environments—work that helps us understand the origins of today's biological diversity.
Mahsa will be joining the Huber Lab, working on inferring demographic history. Welcome Mahsa!
Huber Lab collaborator, Dr. Yuseob Kim from the Ewha Womans University in Seoul, visited Penn State this week, and give a lecture for the Weekly Wednesday Wartik Genomics Lecture Series (WWWGLS).
April 2024
The award recognizes outstanding graduate students enrolled in the Eberly College of Science with interests in Genetics.
March 2023
Kevin will be working in the Huber lab on new statistical methods for detecting partial selective sweeps in aDNA datasets.
Here we review recent evidence of fluctuating selection in Drosophila and beyond. We also explore genetic and ecological models that have been developed to explain the thousands of fluctuating SNPs identified in natural populations and understand their dynamics, including their effects on genome-wide diversity.
