Christ-King Parish

Our Catholic roots in the Stettler area began in 1906 with French Missionaries who cared for many of the French settlers.  Irish Priests also came to take care of our settlers' faith needs.

In 1909, Our Lady of Perpetual Help was built in Stettler by a local parishioner, John Burns.  By the mid 1940’s, Our Lady of Perpetual Help was too small for the growing population and was in need for repair.  It was decided to close Our Lady of Perpetual Help and move it to a site across the street from the school to be used as classrooms.  At the same time, a new Parish Hall was built by volunteer workers in 1947 which served as a place of worship until the new church was built.

Father Ernest Battle was an active participant in planning, designing and contracting our new parish.  Work began on the new church in 1947 with Matt Bohne undertaking all of the brick and concrete work.  Christ-King parish was completed in 1949 and dedicated on November 23, 1950.
