About Chris
US-born, Chris Obermeyer is a seasoned educator, activist, and public health specialist who is currently studying at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in the School's Doctor of Public Health Program in the Faculty of Public Health and Policy.
Prior to beginning his doctoral studies, Chris was working in Kyiv, Ukraine as a Fulbright Public Policy Fellow at the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. At the Public Health Center, Chris led efforts to develop and implement the countries first ever biobehavioral study of trangender men and women and made significant contributions to the work of various non-government organizations. With many years of experience in public policy and community organizing, he has succeeded in implementing new programs to better educational and health outcomes in Ukraine and the United States.
Preceding his work as a Fulbright Public Policy Fellow at the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, Chris was a Peace Corps Response Volunteer in Odesa, Ukraine. In Odesa, he led programs for children and their families affected by HIV, created a condom distribution program, trained healthcare providers on how to provide quality care to key populations at risk for HIV infection, and used mobile applications to engage key populations around their health and risk behaviors.
Prior to his time in Ukraine, Chris focused on health issues impacting LGBTQ youth in Washington, DC. His accomplishments include the passage of groundbreaking suicide prevention legislation and the development of health education standards to address the unique health risks of LGBTQ youth.
Chris has won multiple awards for his advocacy and continues to impact the LGBT and HIV positive communities in Ukraine.
