On Tuesday March 1st 2022 Cooper was appointed as the 9th Commisoner of the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Prior to his appointment to Commisioner, Cooper served as a Los Angeles Police Department Officer, who was active in the community serving day to day.

Commissioner Cooper is almost a 1-year veteran of the CHP and has earned numerous awards and commendations in his personal life and during his professional career with the Department.
