A: The California Highway Patrol has jurisdiction over all of CA. But Troopers are subjected to patrol specifically on Highways and main roads, within their assigned districts.
Q: What is different about CHP compared to other departments?
A: The CHP as a law enforcment agency does similar duties as other agencys, which is to enforce the law. But the CHP specfically has more funding and jurisdicition, meaning we are able to perfrom such duties more effeciently given our resources. We also have diffrent uniforms, rank structures, and policys.
Q: I am interested in becoming a California Highway Patrol Trooper, what should I do?
A: Research. Inform yourself of the perks, benefits, and pros and cons of law enforcement and ensure that a career with the CHP is for you. Take on civilian ridealongs with a Trooper and ask questions to fill yourself in on the duties and responsibilities we carry. And finally, APPLY! Fill out a CHP application and take your shot at becoming a Trooper.
