The need for the resources in this website was based primarily on quantitative research articles conducted by Campbell and Thompson (2007), Killian, Dye and Wayman (2013), and Miksza and Berg (2013). The researchers listed above showed that pre-service music teachers are able to teach more advanced musical concepts when they can be less attentive to "self" concerns and more attentive with "student" concerns.

The resources in this website are categorized based primarily on an article by Lee Strouse (2003) which identified checklists of various resources that a first year teacher should have when beginning a new assignment.

The resources in those categories are based primarily on the Kenneth Phillips text, Directing the Choral Music Program (2nd ed., 2016), which is commonly used in university music education programs across the country.
