How to investigate

If you're not already familiar with an organization or an individual, you may have to do some investigating.

One way to investigate using Google is to do a search for the name and then click on the 3 vertical dots next to the URL in the search result.

You should get a pop-up that tells you some information about the organization or individual, usually from a Wikipedia article.

If there are any unfamiliar words or phrases (like "consortium"), you may need to look them up to fully understand what they're all about.

You can also add [site:wikipedia.org] to your search to find a Wikipedia article that gives you some clues about the organization or individual.

Not every organization or individual has a Wikipedia page.

And some might have pages with warnings at the top, like this one, which means the information on the Wikipedia page might not be reliable.

You might need to get creative about where you look for clues about the organization or individual.

If you can't find any clues about an information source, the best plan is to look for others that you can investigate.
