Once the blood had started to spill, the boy stepped back and observed his work. The shade of sanguine that was splattered across the floor also painted his sword, holding as a symbol of his victory. Amir placed the weapon back into it’s sheath as he picked up the severed head and sprinted back to Emberforge, the rush of wind sweeping over his hair. Emberforge was the ground he had recently been moved to, it’s status in society holding far more worth than what he could ever dream to possess.
I walked across the echoing, tiled floor over to the wooden cupboard. Reaching over to the back of it, I pulled it away from the sage green wall and closer to me. I glanced down to the floor and saw it. I reached my arms down and grasped my hands around the sides of the rectangular cardboard box, lifting it up and placing it onto the stone counter to the right of me. I pushed back the wooden cupboard to where it had originally been and walked over to the box.
“The sky was brightened by the rising sun and shone a beautiful blue shade. Birds cooed and crows cawed, magpies flew to sit on the branch of a tree. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven. Seven magpies. Our main character rose from his bed and got dressed, ready for a new day. Checking his phone, he read the news of another family going homeless - it seems to be happening more and more lately.
After the incident, the world turned bleak, moody and dark. Darker than the red that stained battlefields, darker than the thoughts of those surviving soldiers, most definitely darker than the world had been previously. It came as a shock to most, and certainly no one had prepared. Civil wars are heard of, but when they break out over the world like a deadly disease - that’s when people question what was happening.
