Closing the poverty-related attainment gap across Glasgow and giving every young person a chance to fulfil their full potential, regardless of their background, is the aim of the Diaspora African Women Support Network's "Tutoring for Success Project". Tutoring for Success aims to bridge the Attainment Gap by supporting the educational needs of learners from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds by establishing small-study-support groups.
The Homelessness Intervention Hub (H-VSA)
The findings of the four pathways to poverty for Africans in Scotland contributed to an evidence base which informed the establishment of the "Homelessness and Vocational Skill Acquisition Hub" (H-VSA) for ethnic minority individuals at risk of homelessness. H-VSA is where vulnerable families and individuals at risk of becoming homeless can access support within the community.
Who is Affected?
Africans and other ethnic minorities individuals living in poverty,
Women whose original language is not English,
Unemployed women who cannot work due to language barriers,
Individuals at risk of homelessness,
The majority of families who benefited from the programme are refugees and ethnic minorities who speak very little English, struggling with the challenges of overcrowding, squatting, low income and troubles with neighbours.
