Hi there, I'm Chinmay Pimpalkhare and I'm pursuing my Masters in Computational and Applied Mathematics, with a specialization in Data Science at Stanford University! I am a Research Assistant at the Golub Capital Social Impact Lab at Stanford, working under the supervision of Prof. Susan Athey.
I graduated from IIT Bombay in 2024 with a B.Tech (with Honours) in Mechanical Engineering and a Minor in Artificial Intelligence & Data Science.
Having worked in the AI/ML-based credit risk decision science teams at American Express, I am proficient in the use of ML algorithms, Explainable AI methods and Big Data analysis tools such as PySpark and SQL. I did my undergrad at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, where I worked on research problems in computer vision, stochastic optimization, sequential learning, robot control and thermal engineering for satellite systems. I have been a teaching assistant for mathematical undergraduate courses at IITB.
Throughout my undergrad, I have had the privilege of working with amazing mentors who work on inter-discplinary fields.
My undergraduate thesis with Prof. Dnyanesh Pawaskar from the Department of Mechanical Engineering was on "Automated detection of cracks by training deep learning network on synthetic finite element simulation datasets".
I have also worked with Prof. Debasish Chatterjee from the Department of Systems and Controls on "Algorithmic Feedback Synthesis for Robust Strong Invariance of Continuous Control Systems". Our work has been converted into a manuscript and is currently under review at a prestigious journal.
In my third year, I worked under Prof. Avinash Bharadwaj from the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research on "Coverage Maximisation for UAV Surveillance on Non-convex Domains". The work was presented at the 6th National Conference on Multi-Disciplinary Analysis and Optimization, held at IIT Guwahati. The paper would also be published in the Springer Notes on Mechanical Engineering.
I have also been an ardent member of the Student Satellite Program at IIT Bombay for almost my whole college life. I have had the opportunity to present our team's work at the International Conference on Small Satellites, held at Ludhiana, Punjab. I have also co-authored the paper "In-orbit thermal analysis of Small Satellites", which was presented at the International Conference on Space Mission Operations 2023, held at Bangalore. I was also an author for the poster on "A Genetic Algorithm based Approach for Tuning Parameters of the Star Tracker Parameters", which was presented at the 42nd Meeting of the Astronomical Society of India.
I am currently working at American Express in the Credit Fraud Risk Division at their office in Gurgaon, India as a Data Analyst. I had previously worked at AmEx in their Bangalore office, as an intern, and I was awarded a Pre-Placement Offer for my work. My work lies in the intersection of machine learning and financial risk analysis, and is related to new accounts underwriting.
Apart from being one of the project leads at the IIT Bombay Student Satellite Program, I have also been an ISMP mentor, who is a senior year student tasked at mentoring 12-14 freshmen to ensure that they smoothly transition to college life. I have also been a Teaching Assistant for two undergraduate courses - PH108 (Basics of Electricity and Magnetism) and ME312 (Introduction to Industrial Engineering and Operations Research - I). I was a part of the Hostel 5 cricket team that won bronze at the Interhostel General Championship. I was also a vocalist at the 59th Annual Convocation at IIT Bombay which was held in virtual mode.
I love watching cricket and have been playing cricket since childhood. I also enjoy playing board games and reading books of various genres, including murder mysteries, adventure and philosophical books too. I am a die-hard fan of the Pokemon franchise and have completed most of their games. I also love watching anime, singing and vibing to music.
[2024] Awarded the Department Technical Citation by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Bombay. This is the second highest award for excellence in tech.
