Baduanjin is a kind of gymnastics wellbeing exercise in qigong (氣功) practice. Jin (錦) is a high quality ancient silk fabric woven in many colors. The moves of this qigong technique is usually divided into eight sections and are like woven jin when they are connected, thus the name of the exercise.
「八段锦」相传是宋朝名将岳飞(西元1103 ~ 1142年),为击退金族,创立「崩断金」拳法来强兵健身,而后改名「八段锦」,意指八段招式动作顺滑连绵,优美如锦缎之美。

Bā duàn jǐn'xiāngchuán shì sòngcháo míngjiàng yuèfēi (xīyuán 1103 ~ 1142 nián), wèi jí tuì jīn zú, chuànglì `bēng duàn jīn'quánfǎ lái qiángbīng jiànshēn, érhòu gǎimíng `bā duàn jǐn', yì zhǐ bā duàn zhāoshì dòngzuò shùn huá liánmián, yōuměi rú jǐnduàn zhīměi.
八段錦 Eight-sectioned Exercise (Qigong Baduanjin)
(1)雙手托天理三焦 First, lift the sky with both hands to adjust the triple warmers.
(2)左右開弓似射鵰 Second, draw the bow on both sides to shoot the vulture.
(3)調理脾胃單舉手 Third, raise the arm to regulate the spleen and stomach.
(4)搖頭擺尾去心火 Fourth, shake the head and sway the bottom to extinguish fire in the heart.
(5)五癆七傷往後瞧 Fifth, turn the head and look back to allay the five strains and seven impairments.
(6)雙手攀足護腎腰 Sixth, flex the feet with both hands to strengthen the kidney and waist.
(7)轉拳怒目增力氣 Seventh, clench the fists with angry eyes to build physical strength.
(8)背後起點舊病消 Eighth, seven jolts behind the back to cure all illness.
